Weeks Seven and Eight

The long weekend got me off track, so this week's blog is for 2 weeks.

The October birthdays started on the 2nd when we celebrated Miriam's birthday with chocolate cupcakes. Here on the ship, there is a birthday almost everyday in October. Thank you Miriam, Kelly and Kathernia for the cupcakes and candies!

Another big event was the Open House on 1 October. We had fun showing off our classroom to all the crew members, parents and other students. Right now our theme is 'All Kinds of Friends', so it was great to be able to have friends come and visit. Thank you to all who added to our 'Wall of Friends'.

We are still having lots of fun during center time in the morning. Each week, there are four different activities that the children can pick from. They are able to put their clip on that center and take turns each day trying the different things. One week we had play moblie which was very popular. This past week we had painting with glitter paint and puppet shows which the children also enjoyed.

For about a half-hour every day, the preschoolers are able to go outside. Sometimes we go out to Deck 7 and sometimes out to the Dock. About half the time, the children choose what they want to do - sometimes they develop some really creative games of family and pretend, swing, run and just have fun getting some engery out. The other half of the time, we play games together - relay races, hula hoops, bean bag throwing, etc.

Next week we are going to talk about our friends who are not here on the ship - friends and family in Liberia or other places around the world. If you are reading this and you are sitting somewhere other on the Africa Mercy, please leave us a comment and I will share it with the class.
Some ideas from the preschoolers about what you can do with friends.
