Week Five

The room looked very empty at the end of this week as we took all our 'I Am Special' work off the walls and began to get ready for 'All Kinds of Friends.' On Friday, we also celebrated with a Veggie Tales movie about how God made David special. Everyone enjoyed watching, although a couple children were a little afraid of Goliath. As a reminder that God made us each special and to connect to talking about our friends, there are silhouettes of each child hanging in the passage now. Come by and see if you can identify your friends without looking at the label.

The Preschool 2's have started their 'reading' practice with two Pre-Decodable books called 'My Toys' and 'The Family'. These are very simple books intended to introduce children to book conventions (how to hold the book, turning pages, pointing to words, reading out-loud) and also to a few simple sight words (my, the, and, have, etc.). By June, they should have about 20 little books that they feel comfortable 'reading.'

This week at centers we had playdough, gluing, and large blocks - as well as a time to do something with Miss Elizabeth. The playdough was popular, but I think Daniel Y., Andre and Daniel A. had the most fun building with the blocks. The falling towers got a bit noisey as the center time passed. :)

If your children have mentioned anything about good/bad choices or sin, that may be because the story in Bible this week was about Adam and Eve making the bad choice (sin) to eat the apple after God had told them not to. We also talked about how everyone has sinned - that sometimes we make bad choices, but then we need to stop, ask forgiveness and then try to make good choices the next time. Next week, our Bible will be about Adam, Eve and the first family.
