Weeks 25-27

The weeks are just flying by - maybe that is why I have been so bad about writing and keeping this blog updated - sorry to any regular followers :) Hopfully I will be better in the coming weeks - we only have nine weeks left until the start of summer vacation!
Our '5 senses' theme is off and running. We have talked already about our senses of touch, sight and hearing. This coming week and the week before Easter, we will be finishing up the theme with the sense of smell and taste. Maybe making some yummy Easter treats that taste and smell good.

Lots of fun the past few weeks in centers - we've had little Legos and Duplos, dress-up, dramatic play, puzzles, painting and the wooden train to name a few. I think that this half hour may be the favorite time of the day for most of the students. It is a chance for them to decide what they want to do and then spend a 1/2 hour playing with their friends.

New to preschool was the introduction of 'Wet Wednesday.' One day a few weeks ago, it struck me that the kids come in so sweaty and wet after being outside for recess, why not just get wet and cool off with water play more often -- thus, 'Wet Wednesday' started. We have had it two times already, but I think it is a hit. Both weeks have started off slow with kids not getting too wet and have ended up with soaked kids once they discovered that they can sit into buckets of water or that buckets can be dumped over heads :) We'll see what other wet play ideas we can think of - water table, washing toys, squirt guns, the inflatable pool and maybe even a trip with parents to the pool on Deck 8 - the last one we'll have to think about more - maybe the last week of school to celebrate.

Also new to preschool is 'journal time.' Trying to give the students more time to explore writing and drawing, they each now have a small notebook that we 'write' in two or three times a week. It has been great to see how, in just a few weeks, they understand more about putting ideas and pictures onto a page and even trying to write some words about what they drew.

PS. Megan sends greetings to Emily! :)
